Our Approach
Across every setting, we deliver inspiring, inclusive and engaging musical experiences, carefully tailored to meet the needs of each group. Our sessions are safe, welcoming spaces, where everyone valued and able to take part, regardless of age, background or ability.
We work collaboratively with our participants to co-create music that is relevant to them; every drummer is encouraged to contribute their own musical tastes, cultural influences and creative ideas and, together, we use these shared inspirations to shape music that reflects the unique personalities of each group. This approach empowers our participants to build not only their musical skills, but to find their voice, express themselves confidently and develop positive connections with others. As participants progress, we create opportunities for them to take on leadership roles and support them to help others within the WeDrum community to thrive.
Session leaders are professional musicians with years of experience working in the music industry and with extensive experience in education settings. Our leaders cultivate a supportive musical community where people feel not only inspired, but valued, supported and part of something bigger than themselves. Our approach is dynamic, fun, high energy and designed so that everyone can make music right from the outset.
Whether they're picking up sticks for the first time as part of a school or an alternative provision intervention, or performing to crowds as a part of one of our community groups, WeDrum participants immediately access the limitless benefits of music making.
THE Team.
JOE ALLEN
FOUNDER / CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Joe brings extensive experience as a touring & recording musician, music educator and community artist. He has performed and recorded with internationally renowned artists and producers; has taught in schools, APs, PRUs across Suffolk and London and run a busy private tuition practice. He has also worked on projects for leading arts organisations including the Roundhouse, the Barbican, Britten Pears and more.
Music has always given Joe identity, purpose, confidence and incredible shared experiences. He is deeply passionate about his role in guiding others to discover these things for themselves.
Joe has received comprehensive training as a creative practitioner as well as safeguarding, adverse childhood experiences (trauma informed approach) and SEND .
JOSIE BAMFORD
DIRECTOR
Josie is a senior creative producer with a wealth of experience in developing and delivering arts programmes that improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness and connect communities. She has held senior producing roles at organisations including the Roundhouse and Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 and is experienced in fundraising, strategy development, budgeting and team management.
Josie is passionate about providing high quality world class cultural experiences that speak to, with and for everyone.
REBECCA ALLEN
DIRECTOR
With a background in corporate law, Rebecca brings strategic, legal and organisational expertise to WeDrum. Passionate about creativity and community, she has much experience of volunteering, mentoring young people and delivering community events.
She co-founded WeDrum because she believes music has the power to bring people together and change lives. She is committed to creating inclusive opportunities that help people connect, grow and thrive.
TOM BARFIELD
DIRECTOR
Tom brings over 20 years of experience in education. As a Assistant Headteacher and head of faculty, he is passionate about creating environments where every young person can thrive and reach their potential. A lifelong music enthusiast, Tom combines his educational expertise with a love of making music to help create inclusive, enjoyable and inspiring opportunities for people of all ages.
